The mission of Ozarks Counseling Center is to provide quality mental health assistance to men, women, and children of Greene County, Missouri and the surrounding communities without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic considerations. Ozarks Counseling Center originally formed in Springfield, Missouri in 1952 and was called the Greene County Child Guidance Clinic. It was the first child guidance clinic in the area and was established to treat emotional and behavioral problems of children. A few years later, the clinic began treating the parents of the children. By the 1960’s it became known as the Greene County Guidance clinic and began serving all adults and children in need of mental health services. In the early 1990s the name was changed to Ozarks Counseling Center to reflect the fact that we serve clients from all over SW Missouri and sometimes NW Arkansas with quality and affordable counseling. Counseling fees are based on a sliding scale that takes into account annual income and household size. We also accept Medicare and Medicaid. Some fees may be covered by private insurance. Fees for classes and groups may vary. We moved to our current address in the Galleria Shopping Center, in November, 2004.
The 2009 Not-So-Newlywed Game fund raiser was once again a huge success. Held August 7th at the Landers Theater, the game raises money to help OCC provide counseling services to those in need. This year’s couples were Norm and Nadine Ridder, Doug and Lisa Pitt, Larry and Merrilyn Ellison, Shacar and Debbie Tauber, and Paul Blissard & Kristi Perryman. The Grand Prize this year went to Doug and Lisa Pitt. Host Jeff Jenkins, Executive Director of the Skinny Improv, kept the crowd rolling with laughter. Preliminary entertainment was provided by the New Creole Jazz Band. Make plans now to attend next year’s event, in August 2010.
