Ozarks Counseling Center News and Announcements Ozarks Counseling Center is pleased to announce a donation of $5000 from the Bank of America Foundation. This gift will help provide counseling services to our low-income clients. GIRLS CIRCLE GROUP A group for girls ages 13-18 is now forming at OCC. This will be a six-week group dealing with Body Image and Self-Esteem. The group will examine cultural messages and personal beliefs that influence body image. Topics cover physical awareness, health, and emotional balance through media exploration, imagery, art, personal story telling, and more. The group will meet on Mondays, from 5-6:30 pm. There is no charge for the group, thanks to a grant from the Musgrave Foundation. For more information call 869-9011. FOCIS (Focus on Children In Separation) classes meet on Saturdays, from 9:00am to noon. Cost of the class is $35. There is also a class for children, ages 6-12, which meets at the same time as the parent’s group. There is no additional charge for the children’s class. For information or to register for an upcoming class call 869-9011. Anger Management classes for adults meet on Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00. The class meets for four weeks, and the cost is $100 for the entire class. An intake (at no additional charge) must be scheduled prior to the first class. Held August 7th at the Landers Theater, the game raises money to help OCC provide counseling services to those in need. This year’s couples were Norm and Nadine Ridder, Doug and Lisa Pitt, Larry and Merrilyn Ellison, Shacar and Debbie Tauber, and Paul Blissard & Kristi Perryman. The Grand Prize this year went to Doug and Lisa Pitt. Host Jeff Jenkins, Executive Director of the Skinny Improv, kept the crowd rolling with laughter. Preliminary entertainment was provided by the New Creole Jazz Band. Make plans now to attend next year’s event, in August 2010.
Chronic Illness Group Ozarks Counseling Center is now offering a therapy group for persons with chronic physical illnesses. The group meets a 10:00 am on Tuesdays. There is no charge for the group, thanks to a generous grant from the Ozarks Health Advocacy Foundation. Call 869-9011 for more information.
