The mission of Ozarks Counseling Center is to provide quality mental health assistance to men, women, and children of Greene County, Missouri and the surrounding communities without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic considerations.

Ozarks Counseling Center originally formed in Springfield, Missouri in 1952 and was called the Greene County Child Guidance Clinic. It was the first child guidance clinic in the area and was established to treat emotional and behavioral problems of children. A few years later, the clinic began treating the parents of the children. By the 1960’s it became known as the Greene County Guidance clinic and began serving all adults and children in need of mental health services. In the early 1990s the name was changed to Ozarks Counseling Center to reflect the fact that we serve clients from all over SW Missouri and sometimes NW Arkansas with quality and affordable counseling. Counseling fees are based on a sliding scale that takes into account annual income and household size. We also accept Medicare and Medicaid. Some fees may be covered by private insurance. Fees for classes and groups may vary. We moved to our current address in the Galleria Shopping Center, in November, 2004.

Ozarks Counseling Center held their 16th annual Not-So-Newlywed Game benefit Friday, August 6th at the Landers Theater. Jeff Jenkins of the Skinny Improv was Master of Ceremonies. This year’s contestants were Ethan & Sara Forhetz, Jerry & Jean Harmison, Matt & Nichole Lemmon, Kevin & Heather Robbins and Douglas & Alison Kirar. The Harmisons were the grand prize winning couple.

The event raised just over $23,000 to provide counseling based on ability to pay. These funds will provide 800 hours of counseling for those in need. Thanks to everyone that helped make this year’s event such an enjoyable evening.

The Not-So-Newlywed Game is the primary fund raiser for the Ozarks Counseling Center. The Center, a United Way agency, provides counseling on a sliding scale fee for those who cannot otherwise afford it. Approximately 80% of our clients are at or below the poverty level. Most clients pay $12.00 or even less for a one-hour counseling session valued at $90.00 or more. The Ozarks Counseling Center is committed to providing services regardless of a client’s ability to pay. This makes our fund raising efforts all the more important! Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank You for supporting the Ozarks Counseling Center!
